An Update on Alex’s Journey
Our beloved Alex passed away peacefully on the morning of his 37th birthday, March 4, 2026, after fighting stage 4 cancer with incredible courage and deep faith.
Anyone who met Alex knew he had a way of drawing people in. He could make a room laugh as quickly as he could spark a spirited debate. Curious, strong-willed, and endlessly engaging, Alex had a gift for gab and a presence that people gravitated toward.
For more than a decade, Alex owned and operated a tree service in Omaha, building lasting relationships with many throughout the community. He later worked as an in-house electrician with Airlite Plastics.
Family was the center of his world. He married the love of his life Allyson Campbell Pares, on September 13, 2014, and together they filled their home with laughter, faith, and two amazing kids. He was so proud of Olivia and Silas. Olivia (8) always looked forward to attending Sunday Mass hand-in-hand with her dad, and Silas (2) got his dad’s early obsession with anything on wheels. Alex urged them to be kind, thoughtful, and strong in their faith.
His diagnosis only deepened his commitment to Christ and his Catholic faith. He immersed himself in Scripture, helping others grow in their understanding of God’s Word through study and fellowship. His pilgrimage to Medjugorje, Bosnia in 2025, was a transformative encounter with Our Lady and the mercy of God, strengthening his resolve and inspiring all who knew him. We remember his tenacity, his gift for uniting people, and above all, his unwavering love of Jesus Christ and surrender to God's holy will.
Alexander is survived by his wife, Allyson Stepanek; children, Olivia and Silas; parents, Daniel and Tamara (Kolm) Stepanek; and sister, Abigayle Stepanek; grandparents, Mary Ellen Kolm and Elaine Stepanek.

— The Stepanek Family
Just before Christmas in 2022, everything changed for our family.
Alex was 33, healthy, and expecting his second child with his wife Allyson when we were hit with the unthinkable: stage 4 metastatic colorectal cancer.
There was no warning, no family history. One day we were planning for the holiday, and the next, we were facing surgeries, chemotherapy, and treatments we never imagined having to learn about.
Since then, Alex has faced this head-on with courage, faith, and relentless determination. He has endured multiple surgeries, over 20 rounds of chemotherapy, and cutting-edge immunotherapy. He pursued every opportunity available to him, including the personalized treatment program at Immunocine in Cancún that so many of you helped make possible.
Because of your generosity, he was able to take that step.
While that chapter has now concluded, Alex’s journey continues. Each season has brought its own challenges and its own grace. Through it all, what has remained constant is the strength of family, faith, and the community that has surrounded him.
We are deeply grateful for every prayer, every message, and every act of support along the way.
